Good morning Rhodies and welcome to Rollin’ with the Rhodes…

We are a family of 3, two adults and a teenager, with the 4 dogs (3 of them pugs) in tow, heading out on a cross country trip of the US in our travel trailer, affectionately known as “The Colonel”.

We are beginning our trip by driving from Maine (in the dead of winter) to Key West and spending a few weeks just relaxing at the beaches... Along the way we plan to siesta in North Carolina, Georgia, and some other well known beaches along the eastern Florida coast (because Key West is reallllly far away I’m told…). Then we'll be heading west to explore as many of our National Parks and natural wonders as we can squeeze in, a few Six Flags amusement parks (season tickets are the best, aren't they?!), and anything else that peeks our interest along the way. Our goal is to make it out to Los Angeles and then drive up the California coast before we head back to New England.

We'll be boondocking, which will mean staying in the parking lots of Walmarts, Cracker Barrells, Cabela's, and any other free spots we can find, until we get to North Carolina. North Carolina is our first planned exploration, where we’ll begin staying at the campgrounds included with our Thousand Trails camping pass. Later, as we inch across this fine country, we’ll be visiting with family and friends scattered along our route (watch out you guys, if we haven’t hit you up yet, be expecting a call from us!), and eventually...our dream finally coming true... we’ll be exploring the BLM lands out west. If you haven’t already heard about the BLM, this is where you get to just stop when you like the scenery and stay in that spot for up to two weeks at a time… this is the in the middle of nowhere guys, no electric other than what our set of solar panels can collect for us, no water or sewer, and best of all, no light or air pollution. Can't wait...

Our 7th grader is "roadschooling" which will consist of some online coursework in math & history, the Junior Ranger program through the National Parks Service, and some current event activities that we have created ourselves. Most importantly, she’ll be learning about life and all that comes with it. She is fully on board and excited. We are already seeing a huge change in her since we began the homeschool process (or what we like to call “Rhodeschooling”) and we are finding it very rewarding to be so involved with her education.

So, with all that being said, we welcome you to “Rollin’ with the Rhodes.” We’re happy to call you our “Rhodies” and we hope you enjoy following along on this adventure of a lifetime! We invite you to subscribe to this blog so you get notifications as we add new content, and please keep us posted on all that we are missing in New England!
