Vegas, part 1

Hello there!

Boy, we've been so busy we'd haven't had much time to post!

We've had connectivity issues, so I'm not sure when you'll read this... I wrote and queued it for posting on June 29th...

Last time we updated you we were in Cottonwood, Arizona, where we spent 2 full weeks. We ended that stay with a trip down to Pheonix to go to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, which a water park, no rollercoasters. It was a great time. I think we rode every ride they had. A couple were WAY outside my personal comfort zone, but I'm glad I tried everything.

Six Flags has since closed that park in conjunction with everything else in Arizona rolling back the COVID reopening plans. Was it Karma throwing us a bone? Dumb luck? Who knows. Hoping we'll get another chance to go to a Six Flags, but the outlook isn't good.

Trials & tribulations...

We left Arizona and traveled to Nevada where we stayed at Sam's Town KOA for 6 nights. We thought we had seen (or felt) heat before Nevada. Well... let me tell you... there is a point where hot surpasses hot. And it's called Las Vegas.

I think our thermometer read a high of 114 at one point. It may have been higher...Day after day, the camper got hotter and hotter. Inside temps were regularly 95+ WITH air conditioning running 24 hours a day. (The dogs were especially unhappy with the temperature). Then we noticed the refrigerator was no longer keeping things cold. By the next day, only the freezer worked. We did a quick defrost,  hoping that would help. It didn't.

The next morning,  I went to Lowe's and bought the hideous tinfoil bubble wrap stuff to cover the windows. That day, inside temps topped out in the 80s... an improvement the little dogs seemed to greatly appreciate. Still no improvement in the fridge. This was Sunday, which was supposed to be our last night in Vegas.

We decided to extend our stay another night and made an appointment with a mobile RV repair company for Monday morning. And wouldn't you know, Monday morning, the fridge had finally beaten the heat and recovered. So we cancelled the service call, enjoyed a day in our newly cooled camper and prepared to move on Tuesday morning (yesterday).

Ok, well, I'm splitting this post into 2 parts, because its way longer than I intended.

My words of wisdom, if you are heading to the desert in an RV, spend the $25 on the tacky hideous tinfoil bubble wrap and get it up on your windows before you arrive. You can thank me later!

Stay tuned for Vegas, post deux!
