Social distancing, RV style...

Coronavirus, day 10? We were on the move again...

We stayed at a Walmart last night. We've never seen anything like it. There were 18 of us filling the end of the lot. Big rigs, bigger rigs pulling even bigger trailers, tiny travel tailors, camper vans, a schoolie (a school bus converted into a camper), long haul truckers with and without their trailers... even a big name on YouTube was there (we didn't see his rig until we were leaving in the morning)! It was loud with all the engines running all night.

It was 91 degrees when we pulled in, so we pulled a big Walmart no-no and hooked up our generator to run the AC. It made no difference to our surroundings with all the other noise. But it made all the difference for us and the pups!

Ruby and LadyBird had some GI thing and were sick all night. Super fun! We think it may have been the heat, but in any event, we were active all night.

We traveled 2 days to get to a new free boondocking spot that is just gorgeous (stay tuned for a separate post about the campground). The roads were empty passing through Florida's state capital, not even commuters were out. Eerie.

Other than RVs, tractor trailer trucks, and the occasional passenger car, we were alone on the road until we saw 3 convoys of national guard trucks. Each convoy had at least a dozen trucks in it. Each truck was carrying a storage container and heading east. Kinda creepy.

We had originally planned to stay in this location for 4 nights. As the virus started getting worse, we called and extended our stay to the maximum 7 nights just in case our next stop (not free) closed. Then today as Google tells us we are 15 minutes away, an email comes through "URGENT!" it says. The state is closing all of these free spots we've been enjoying, effective March 23rd.

So just to recap: 4 nights became 7 nights and then 4 nights again. (Don't worry, we're having trouble keeping track too!) But no worries, now we're just back to the original plan. We just need to continue to be flexible.

Tomorrow we will visit the "Emerald Coast" here in Florida, which I am looking forward to. It's supposed to be amazing.

In other news:

- The tow vehicle needs some work done on the radiator and cooling system so the transmission doesn't overheat when we'r hit mountains. Mike is working with the fabulous RV community online to set up the necessary service appointments for when we get to Houston.

- Callie has a big birthday coming up on Sunday... the big 1-3! Her birthday gift is Surfing lessons (a big thank you going out to Mimi, Gigi, Grammy & Grampa Max, Grammy Leslie, & Auntie Mel for helping us make this happen!). 4 hours broken up over the weekend of 1 on 1 lessons. She is so excited! 🥳

- The upload speeds on our data here is terribly slow. Our phones work, but posting is an issue. I had all kinds of pictures to go along with this post, but it doesn't seem that the universe is on my side today. Sorry for the false alert with this post too, it got all scrambled when it posted. So I had to redo it 😢

Lastly, and possibly most importantly, we are down to 2 rolls of TP. We've gone to store after store, and there just doesn't seem to be any left in this state.

Stay tuned, we'll have several posts coming and of course surfing pictures!

Stay healthy, and if you are as low on TP as we are... I'm sorry we can't help, we haven't a square to spare!
