An 80 mph update...

Howdy again all!

I promised to finish taking you along with us to our present location, so hold on tight, the speed limit on the way here was 80, so I’m going to attempt to follow the rules of the road…

Upon leaving Corpus Christi…

Stop 1: Walmart, Kerrville, TX

Most memorable experience: Walking to Wendy’s to get a Frosty (…and burgers) … (…and fries) and having to walk through the drive-thru because that was the only way to get our chocolatey Frosty goodness (and burgers….and fries).

Least memorable experience: You’d think I had made Callie dress up in a chicken costume and do a dance for her Frosty. She was sooo embarrassed to walk through the drive-thru (not a soul in sight) and tried to refuse to join me, but that just wasn’t going to happen. Based on the employee’s response, we were not the first walkers in the drive-thru. (And probably won’t be the last…)

Stop 2: Walmart, Fort Stockton, TX

Most memorable experience: The heatwave that hit inside the camper… I think we topped out at 104 degrees. The upside, we now know that Ruby most certainly can handle heat above 76 degrees as she previously had us believing through her dramatic antics.

Least memorable experience: The heatwave that hit inside the camper… And Mike having to repair the generator unexpectedly in the Walmart parking lot, where it was hotter than it was inside.

Stop 3: Wild West RV Park, Van Horn, TX

Most memorable experience: El’Capitan Hotel and Lounge, where Mike and I had a date with the best cocktails we’ve ever had. Super cool place, built in 1930, the bar was originally in the basement, since it was mid-prohibition. If you’re interested, here’s more about it: http://www.thehotelelcapitan.com/history/

Least memorable experience: 2 things: There was nothing “wild” about our campground… Deciding we needed to replace the radiator in the truck. It turned out to be painless and far less expensive than expected. Super nice mechanic, great prices, 5 stars and raving review left online.

Mid ride: Time Zone Change!!!

Stop 4: Dog Canyon Dispersed Camping Area, BLM, Alamogordo, NM

Most memorable experiences to date: The view at sunset… The never ending stars in the pitch-black night sky… The silence... The view... Being surrounded by mountains in every direction (check out my video below)…

Least memorable experiences to date: Running up the mound behind us at nightfall to catch “just one more picture” and coming face to face with a colony of scorpion like things who heard my approach. They came crawling out of that hole in every direction so freaking fast, I jumped backwards, and they all went back into the hole. Holy crap! The interweb says scorpions don’t live in hives, so I don’t know what they were, but they haunted me in my dreams last night.

Second Least memorable experiences to date: Lady Bird and Ruby got out (again..) and ran away (again…) Callie did her dog whispering thing and caught up to them at least a mile off into the desert (I was trying to keep up, but ultimately fell behind in the chase). At this point, I think Lady Bird is trying to get rid of Ruby by taking her so far from home that Ruby can’t make it back. First it was an ice storm, now it’s the middle of the desert.

AND – you're up to date!

We have a few more nights here in Alamogordo then we'll be off and rollin' again!

Stay Tuned!

A 360 degree view from the mound behind us. It gets a little quick and blurry because I was nervous about those attacking scorpions! Sorry about that in advance
