Utah

Utah was more than we expected it to be.

Think desert landscape mixed with lush green fields and trees found in every canyon. There are seasons here. The leaves change like in New England...There is snow in the winter...Summers seem to be comfortable,  at least at 7880 ft in elevation, with cool nights, thunderstorms and RAIN almost everyday, and dry lighting at night when the skies are clear. The night sky goes on forever,  with more stars than we've ever seen before, and just a few moments look in any direction provides an array of shooting stars not visible anywhere we've yet been. Absolutely amazing and breathtaking.

I could live here. Seriously.

Our site in the Dixie National Forest (free, no hookups) was fantastic. We were just 10 miles outside Bryce Canyon off Scenic Route 12 (NOT a suitable scenic ride for towing or RV travel, fyi).

We spent a day at Bryce Canyon. It was amazing. While Callie was less impressed than she was with the Grand Canyon,  Mike and I found it more varied geographically, unique at every turn, and the amphitheater was so overwhelming in depth,  detail,  and unreplicated beauty.

We spent another day driving about halfway out Scenic Byway 12, without the trailer in tow. That was definitely one of the most amazing drives we've taken. Twisting roads cut into the canyons between mountains so high that they put the White Mountains to shame. We even got to see Grand-Escalante National Monument along the way (an added bonus!). It was an unforgettable day.

We changed our touring plans since our last update. The elevation at all the other National Parks we had pencilled in are equally as high up as where we stayed for Bryce. It turns out the air is a little too thin and was giving Mike elevation sickness. And... after getting a hint of green again, we decided we've seen enough of the desert.

We are currently traveling to Colorado where we found a beautiful little campground to recharge (with showers!!) for a few days. There is a county fair going on there with a real rodeo! We'll see what the COVID map looks like when we get there, but wouldn't that be an experience!

Thinking we should rename this blog "We'll See..." what do you think? Seems like the story of this trip!

Have a good Sunday everyone. Stay healthy.
